About us
We are a group of prospective genetic counseling students working to create a supportive and informative network for other prospective students. We are based out of Southern California but welcome participation from prospective students around the U.S. and the world.

GCPSN hosts webinars and presentations where we welcome genetic counselors in different specialties to discuss with us their various roles as a genetic counselor. Most events are recorded and can be accessed via our Discord Server or by joining our emailing list. | GCPSN hosts Meet Ups virtual and in-person for prospective students to meet genetic counselors and their future peers. Our upcoming meet ups are also shared on our social media. |

The GCPSN is organized by our prospective student executive board members. Applications to be a board member for the upcoming year typically opens in the summer. The application can be found on our social media. Role responsibilities and information on the selection process can be found here. Prospective students who are not part of the board are invited to attend GCPSN’s public events and workshops. | The GCPSN host various workshops and events focused on teaching prospective students about the field of genetic counseling and helping prospective students with their application. These events could not be achieved without the help of genetic counselors and genetic counseling graduate students who participate in our events as panelists and speakers. The GCPSN is committed to spreading awareness about genetic counseling. The GCPSN honors this commitment by coordinating with genetic counselors outreach events. These events provide students ranging from high school to college the opportunity to learn about the field and the path to become a genetic counselor.

Our outreach efforts are led by the Community Education Managers and members of our executive board. As prospective students we do not give the presentation, however we work with our local genetic counseling organization to find practicing genetic counselor to speak to students. Our efforts are currently focused in California and Arizona, however, additional states can request presentations with the understanding they need to be virtual.
